Welcome to Ms Kaudelka's Grade 5 math class.
"In our information - and technology-based society, it requires individuals who are able to think critically about complex issues, analyse and adapt to new situations, solve problems of various kinds, and communicate their thinking effectively. A problem-solving approach encourages students to reason their way to a solution or a new understanding." - Math Curriculum, Ministry of Education Document
In our classroom, we focus on problem solving skills and real world application of math concepts. By placing math skills into everyday situations (counting money, telling time, estimating) it makes new concepts relevant and applicable to students.
For the month of October the students will be working on Number Sense and Numeration. We will be constructing and deconstructing whole numbrs up to 1,000,000 and comparing and ordering decimals from 0.01-1. Rounding whole numbers and decimals will also be addressed.
In October we will continue with our Friday skill quizzes which will help students with their basic math skills, including their speed and accuracy. This month we will focus on division skills up to 144/ 12.
